Anthropic PBC plans to change how long and where business customers must retain data when using its most capable Claude AI models. The company previously announced a data retention policy aimed at reducing potential cybersecurity risks, but it now expects to roll out a revised approach later this year.
Under the planned update, enterprise customers will still have to retain data for 30 days when they use Anthropic’s top-tier models. However, unlike the earlier policy that required data retention under Anthropic’s setup, the revised rules would give customers the option to store and manage retained data on their own cloud infrastructure.
Bloomberg reports the change follows enterprise concerns about control and operational flexibility, citing an unnamed source. PYMNTS.com similarly reports that Anthropic is tweaking the policy it announced in June, while keeping the 30-day retention requirement. Both outlets frame the upcoming “safety system” as the mechanism that continues to require retention, but adjusts the hosting arrangement for enterprise customers.
