NDC urges Atiku to step aside and back Peter Obi for 2027 election

The Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) has called on African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, to withdraw from the 2027 race and support its flagbearer, Peter Obi.Theo Abu Agada, NDC’s Director of New Media and Strategic Communications, made the appeal in a post on X, stressing that Atiku’s support for Obi would strengthen the opposition’s chances of defeating President Bola Tinubu.Agada praised Atiku’s vision and legacy but argued that the time had come for him to step away from presidential ambitions in the interest of broader opposition unity.“AA is a good and solid man, but he needs to give it up at this point. His idea for a working Nigeria is brilliant, but at this point, he needs to give up his ambition. If he steps aside, nothing is going to affect his sterling legacy. AA should support Obi to kick the APC out,” Agada wrote.This call comes shortly after Atiku declared during a Facebook Live session that the 2027 election would be his last presidential contest, win or lose.
