A 23-year-old suspected Boko Haram fighter, identified as Ali Saidiq, surrenders to Nigerian troops in Borno State with an AK-47 rifle and 26 rounds of ammunition. The reports say the development is shared via a post on X by Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency and security expert covering the Lake Chad region.

According to the accounts, Saidiq is from Garere in Kukawa Local Government Area and hands over the weapon during a stop-and-search operation at the Kwatan Alkama checkpoint. The Nigerian Army Brigade Lake Chad and troops of the 196 Amphibious Battalion are reported to be involved. Sources add that the suspect voluntarily provides the rifle, including a stated registration number, and a magazine containing 26 rounds of 7.62x39mm ammunition.

All outlets link the surrender to increased military pressure in the area, while one source adds that the suspect is detained in custody for profiling and further investigation to determine his role, operational history, and any links to other members. The rifle and ammunition are secured as investigations continue.
