Hyundai Motor union members stage a full-day strike on Friday after talks with management fail to resolve wage disputes. Multiple outlets report it is the first full-scale walkout in about 10 years. The stoppage threatens further disruption to production as vehicle demand remains weak.

The strike involves Hyundai plants in Ulsan, Jeonju and Asan, with reports saying output is halted for a combined 16 hours across two work shifts. About 39,000 union members participate. The walkout is part of an ongoing dispute that began in May, and sources estimate that including Friday’s action the union has conducted around 60 hours of strikes.

Industry estimates cited across the reports put cumulative production losses from the current dispute at roughly 55,200 vehicles, with lost sales above 2.3 trillion won (about $1.6 billion). Some reporting adds that further four-hour walkouts are planned for Monday and Tuesday. The articles also describe disagreement over elements beyond base pay, including a proposed 50% increase in performance-based compensation, reinstatement of dismissed workers, and retirement-age extension.
