Two commercial vessels carrying Indian nationals are reported hijacked in separate incidents off Yemen and Somalia, according to shipping monitoring and maritime security reports. The Mint and Business Line reports say 22 Indians are affected across the two cases, with the crews reportedly safe.

In the Yemen incident, the Seamull tanker, also referred to as SIBU 1, is approached off Yemen’s coast east of Al Mukalla. Free Press Journal reports that six armed persons board the tanker and take control, redirecting it toward Somalia. It says 16 Indians are among the tanker’s 20-member crew. Monitoring efforts are ongoing, and available information indicates the crew is safe.

In the Somalia incident, the Cameroon-flagged M/V LUTUF is reported hijacked off Somalia’s Puntland coast, according to Free Press Journal citing a Somali official. It reports six Indians among a 10-member crew and that the vessel carries Turkish military equipment, along with communications and satellite equipment. The sources describe the situation as part of a broader resurgence in Somali piracy, with some vessels held hostage, while the exact condition of the Somalia-side crew is less clear than in the Yemen case.
