Rahul Gandhi arrives at a Delhi police office on Friday to press for action over alleged pellet-gun injuries to student protester Sahil Lochab from a July 20 demonstration at Jantar Mantar. Multiple outlets report that Gandhi joins Lochab outside the Parliament Street police station/DCP office, demanding an FIR be registered and questioning police over whether pellet guns were used during the protest.

The reports say Lochab’s family had submitted a written complaint earlier and that the police initially refused to register an FIR or did not provide an investigating officer (I/O) number, according to the Congress. Gandhi and other Congress leaders stage a sit-in and publicly display what they say are pellets recovered from Lochab’s body, citing medical reports and alleging severe eye damage. In Parliament and on the ground, Gandhi also targets Union Home Minister Amit Shah, accusing the government of authorising excessive force, while police maintain that pellet use is disputed.

On Friday, amid ongoing pressure and after Gandhi’s confrontation, the Delhi Police begins registering an FIR related to the complaint about the alleged pellet injuries. Times of India and other coverage describe the FIR being filed against unidentified persons, with investigations continuing. Union minister JP Nadda criticises the sit-in as politically motivated and notes that Supreme Court-led processes are also underway.
