Maersk says its vehicle carrier Alliance Fairfax completes a transit of the Strait of Hormuz and exits the Persian Gulf with US military escort. Multiple outlets report that the ship, which flies a US flag and is operated by Maersk’s Farrell Lines subsidiary, transits the waterway under assistance from the US military. Maersk states the voyage is completed without incident, and that all crew members are safe and unharmed.
One outlet adds that the Alliance Fairfax had been unable to leave the Gulf since late February, after tensions and conflict involving Iran begin on Feb. 28. Another report describes that the ship’s passage occurs as part of efforts to help commercial shipping move through the strait during heightened security concerns.
Maersk’s chief executive is also quoted as saying the company uses a cautious approach during the Middle East crisis, while the company continues to communicate updates on the vessel’s status and movement.
