The Indian Navy takes delivery of “Mangrol,” its third indigenous anti-submarine warfare shallow-water craft, as part of efforts to expand coastal defenses. The ship is intended to support underwater surveillance and anti-submarine operations, particularly in shallow-water environments.

According to reports, Mangrol is built by Cochin Shipyard Limited and is equipped with advanced indigenous systems for detecting underwater threats, including sonar for identifying possible contacts and torpedoes for countering them. The delivery is described as a step in a broader procurement plan to build eight similar shallow-water anti-submarine vessels. Outlets highlight both the operational role of the craft in threat detection and engagement, and the industrial aspect, noting growing local content and India’s expanding defense manufacturing capability.
