A Chinese man in his 60s reunites with his family after spending 25 years living in total isolation while caring for a house deep in the mountains. Li Guoyou, 63, leaves his home in 1987 at age 24 and survives for decades alone, according to the reports.

The reunions occur after he receives renewed hukou paperwork—China’s official household registration—at a police station in Pingtan, a town in southwestern Sichuan province. The restored registration formally reconnects him with his hometown after nearly three decades away. One account adds that the house is in a remote area and that the owner had forgotten about it, underscoring how long he has been living there without regular contact.
