Indian Railways runs its first long-haul double-stack container train from Jawaharlal Nehru Port (JNPT) toward the Vadodara division. The service carries 360 TEUs and covers about 422 kilometers. The initial run is designed to improve the evacuation of containers from the port by increasing the amount of cargo transported per train movement.

Railway officials say the double-stack format can reduce the number of train trips required to move containers away from the terminal, easing pressure on port and rail infrastructure. The effort is also presented as supporting a shift toward greener freight by moving more goods using rail rather than road, with the goal of lowering overall logistics and transportation costs. While outlets focus on different aspects—capacity and evacuation benefits—both describe the same core details of the route, distance, and container volume.
