Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar is scheduled to undertake a five-day official visit to the United Kingdom from August 24 to 28, according to Pakistan’s Foreign Office.

During the visit, Dar is due to meet UK Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband and the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) Minister of State for Pakistan Stephen Doughty, along with other senior UK officials. The Foreign Office says Dar will also hold discussions with the secretary-general of the International Maritime Organisation on the issue of Pakistani crew members held by Somali pirates aboard the MT Honour 25 oil tanker, and meet the Commonwealth Secretary-General, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey. Additional meetings are expected with British parliamentarians and representatives of the Pakistani diaspora in the UK.

The outlets connect the trip to recent diplomatic engagement between the two countries. They note that in July Pakistan and the UK agree to intensify bilateral trade engagement and strengthen business-to-business cooperation, including efforts to upgrade an existing trade dialogue. They also cite a June understanding to deepen cooperation on counterterrorism, combating illegal migration and human smuggling, and collaboration in policing and training.
