Rakesh Gangwal, an IndiGo co-founder and IIT Kanpur alumnus, makes an additional commitment of ₹300 crore to IIT Kanpur for its medical school plans. The funding is directed toward developing the Gangwal School of Medical Sciences and Technology at IIT Kanpur, according to a statement reported by both outlets.

The reports say Gangwal previously contributed ₹100 crore in 2022, bringing his total contribution to ₹400 crore. One outlet also notes that the latest donation comes with a matching-grants mechanism: up to ₹300 crore may be provided against contributions from other supporters.

Both accounts describe the medical school’s broader campus plans, including advanced medical education, healthcare, and research facilities. The Free Press Journal specifically mentions a planned 500-bed super-speciality hospital and a proposed 200-bed cancer care research centre. Business Line focuses on the purpose of the new commitment—accelerating advanced medical education, healthcare delivery, and research infrastructure at IIT Kanpur.
