The Public Private Partnership Appraisal Committee (PPPAC) gives in-principle approval to a plan to lease 11 Airports Authority of India (AAI) airports to private players under public-private partnership (PPP) arrangements. The concessions are set to run for 50 years, according to reports.

The proposal groups airports into five bundles, combining major airports with smaller ones rather than offering each airport separately. One bundle covers Amritsar and Kangra-Gaggal, another includes Varanasi, Gaya and Kushinagar, a third groups Bhubaneswar and Hubballi, while Raipur and Aurangabad form the fourth bundle. The fifth bundle pairs Tiruchirappalli with Tirupati.

Outlets also describe planning details around risk management and transition measures. Reporting notes the government caps the number of bundles a single bidder can win to limit market concentration and potential over-leveraging. A one-year joint management period is proposed involving existing AAI employees, with a requirement for the concessionaire to retain 60% of AAI employees for up to three years. The plan follows an earlier round of PPP airport leasing in 2018-19.
