Workers are increasingly updating past LinkedIn job entries to include AI-related skills, according to a study drawing on large-scale profile data. Researchers analyzed 29.4 million U.S. LinkedIn profiles and compare language and skill additions over time, finding a notable shift toward AI terms in workers’ profiles.
The paper reports that a substantial share of people retroactively edit job history entries, including roles they have already left. Across the dataset, AI-related additions rise sharply after the public launch of ChatGPT, while certain terms tied to remote work and diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) show declines. One outlet adds that the pace of AI-skill labeling accelerates over time, and that a future snapshot could overstate how AI-skilled workers were in 2022.
