Neil Young and his group the Chrome Hearts release a new version of “Casting Me Away From You,” a song Young wrote as a teenager. The recording is shared ahead of a forthcoming album.
Multiple outlets link the new track to Young’s new LP, “Second Song,” in which he revisits earlier material. Stereogum frames the song as one Young wrote more than 60 years ago, referring to its origins in the early 1960s and Young’s teenage years in a Winnipeg band era. Rolling Stone places the original writing in 1965 and describes it as a song Young wrote as a teenager.
While both sources agree the new recording appears on “Second Song” and that the song dates back to Young’s teen years, they differ slightly on the specific year and the surrounding timeline. Both treat the release as part of an album that includes newly recorded versions of older songs, presented with Young’s current band.
