A dispute at a temple in Srirangapatna, Mandya district, is now under scrutiny after CCTV footage of a woman identified as the daughter of BJP MLA B Suresh Gowda allegedly slapping a woman police officer surfaced online. The incident reportedly occurs during Bhima Amavasya celebrations around 8:15 pm on August 12. Some reports also state the officer slaps back during the confrontation before bystanders intervene.

NDTV and the Free Press Journal both describe an argument linked to entry for “special darshan,” with the MLA’s daughter arriving for darshan and objecting when she is not allowed in immediately. According to the accounts, the police officer asks her to follow procedures to avoid inconvenience to other devotees, but the confrontation escalates with alleged verbal abuse and physical assault. The police officer later files a complaint with Kyathanahalli Police Station.

The BJP MLA has publicly apologized while disputing aspects of the account, including claims that the officer verbally abused his daughter, and he calls for a departmental probe. Police have also registered an FIR against the MLA’s daughter under provisions including assaulting a public servant and criminal intimidation, according to the reports.
