Freddie Mercury’s iconic stage and screen costumes are being put on display at London’s V&A as part of a free temporary exhibition marking what would have been his 80th birthday. Multiple outlets report that the event will feature eight of his most recognisable looks.
The V&A trail, titled “Freddie Mercury Splendid Things,” is scheduled to run during the autumn-winter period. The Guardian adds specific dates, stating it runs from 24 October 2026 to 17 January 2027. Several sources describe the trail as covering styles from across Mercury’s career, with examples including an outfit associated with Queen’s debut album and the catsuit linked to the “Bohemian Rhapsody” video.
While most coverage focuses on the free public display and the number of costumes, outlets differ slightly on emphasis, including references to where the trail takes place and how it is curated. The Guardian says the project is developed with Mercury’s former fiancée and close friend Mary Austin, who is lending seven of the eight looks.
