A new Pew Research Center analysis reports that more than one-third of webpages published after ChatGPT’s 2022 debut show signs of AI authorship. The outlets cite a figure of about 35%, based on content created in the period following ChatGPT’s public launch.
The analysis indicates a high share of pages that appear to have been generated or heavily assisted by AI writing tools, suggesting such content is increasingly common in online publishing. While the reports reference the same overall finding, they emphasize slightly different time frames: one describes pages created after ChatGPT’s launch broadly, while another highlights pages pushed live since January 2023. Both frame the results as evidence that AI-written content is present at scale on the web.
