Moonshot AI, the Beijing-based company behind the Kimi chatbot, is taking steps to restructure its business to support an initial public offering, with sources indicating the process is aimed at meeting stricter requirements for Chinese firms listing overseas. Bloomberg reports that the company has told investors it will overhaul its corporate structure as part of preparing for a Hong Kong IPO. The South China Morning Post similarly says Moonshot AI is planning to dismantle its offshore structure and is seeking shareholder feedback on the approach.
According to the report, Moonshot AI currently holds assets through a Cayman Islands parent company and has a variable interest entity (VIE) structure. The company proposes removing that VIE arrangement as it considers moving forward with a listing, which is expected to be in Hong Kong, though the timing and final venue are not confirmed. The restructuring discussions are described as occurring alongside investor consultations, suggesting the company is aligning its corporate setup with compliance expectations tied to Beijing’s evolving stance on outbound listings.
