Indian envoy to the United States Vinay Mohan Kwatra says India’s economic transformation since 2014 serves as an “anchor point” for expanding engagement with the US. Speaking at the Capitol Hill Summit 2026 organised by the US-India Friendship Council in Washington, Kwatra linked the growth in bilateral cooperation to changes in India’s domestic economic and sectoral development. He said the passage of the SHANTI Act is expected to unlock opportunities for private sector collaboration in the civil nuclear power domain.
Kwatra also reiterated a bilateral trade goal set by both countries: raising annual trade from about USD 220 billion to USD 500 billion by 2030. He described defence and security cooperation as one of the fastest-growing pillars of the India-US partnership, and noted that India is a major user of some American platforms outside the US. The comments were made in a setting that included US lawmakers attending the summit, including Ro Khanna, Deborah Ross, Tim Moore and Senator Steve Daines.
