The order comes after the Delhi High Court dismissed review-related pleas filed by SpiceJet and its promoter Ajay Singh on May 4, following an earlier direction requiring the airline to deposit the amount.
At the Supreme Court, SpiceJet’s counsel cites operational and financial disruption linked to the West Asia crisis and seeks extension of time to make the payment, reportedly requesting three months. The airline also points to the government’s airline support/bailout package with an outlay of ₹5,000 crore and argues that these developments should be considered in granting more time.
The Supreme Court declines to extend the timeline directly and instead instructs SpiceJet to seek the appropriate extension before the Delhi High Court. The court notes that developments connected to the May 5 bailout announcement cannot automatically serve as a basis for extending the deposit deadline. The matters are therefore left to the Delhi High Court to consider.
