CD Projekt Red unveils details for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered and its upcoming expansion, Songs of the Past, in presentations at Gamescom Opening Night Live. The studio also frames Songs of the Past as a major addition to the 2015 game, arriving years after the original release and after the earlier Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine expansions.
The remastered edition launches September 29 on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Switch 2, with Eurogamer also noting Battle.net support. CD Projekt Red positions the upgrade as free for existing owners of The Witcher 3. Multiple outlets describe extensive changes, including improved controls and combat, expanded photo mode, a revamped skill tree, enhanced traversal and mount handling, UI and quest tracking improvements, accessibility updates, and upgraded rendering features such as ray tracing and path tracing options.
For Songs of the Past, sources agree it is the next story expansion and is shown via a debut trailer, but details beyond its general scope remain limited. The expansion is described as similar in size and scope to the two earlier expansions. Release timing is outlined as sometime next year, with reporting that it is currently slated for 2027 after an earlier 2026 plan. Outlets also note CD Projekt Red’s broader plan for The Witcher 4, which targets a 2028 release and stars Ciri rather than Geralt.
