A 25-year-old man in Jorhat, Assam, is arrested after allegedly stealing around ₹50 lakh in cash and gold ornaments from his home. Police say he planned to use the money for gifts for his girlfriend, and that he and other people helped carry out and sell parts of the stolen items.

According to the family, the money was kept inside the house for business purposes and the accused knew about it because he was involved in the family business. Outlets also report that police traced the man’s cellphone to Ahmedabad. His father reportedly travelled there, brought him back to Jorhat, and handed him over to the police.

Reporting largely aligns on the arrest, the value and type of property stolen, and the allegation that the theft was connected to spending on his girlfriend. One outlet adds that two friends were named in the first information report for planning and assisting in selling gold, while the girlfriend was not named as an accused but may be questioned. Police continue to trace other suspects and recover the cash and gold.
