Samsung is ordered by a London High Court to pay Swatch Group about US$11.6 million over “knock-off” smartwatch watch-face applications hosted via Samsung’s Galaxy app store. The digital designs replicated watch-face styles tied to multiple Swatch Group brands.

The ruling follows Swatch’s trademark-related legal action against Samsung, after Swatch sought damages of up to around US$170 million. Outlets report that the court found the availability of the copied designs between roughly 2015 and 2019 damaged Swatch’s interests, including through display-related infringement. Samsung argued its financial loss and any compensation should be much lower (including claims around a few hundred dollars) and that the company did not suffer meaningful damage.

The amount awarded is described as higher than Samsung’s position but substantially less than Swatch’s request. Samsung says it is considering appeals and other countermeasures. Multiple reports also note that the broader dispute may not be limited to the UK, with related proceedings involving the same brands described as pending elsewhere, including the United States.
