Three women are charged after a fight breaks out in a children’s play area at a shopping centre in Kwun Tong, Hong Kong, following a viral video involving an elderly woman. Police state the incident happens at about 4.45pm on Wednesday at the atrium of APM shopping centre, where parents and children gather around the play zone. The dispute is captured in footage widely shared on social media.
Police say they investigate after online clips show a 68-year-old woman slapping a five-year-old girl, and they suspect she is struck first. Hong Kong Free Press reports three women are arrested on suspicion of fighting in a public place. South China Morning Post reports two women are also arrested for assault in connection with the same incident, with the later charges involving a 68-year-old woman, her 34-year-old daughter, and another woman aged 34.
On Thursday, the three women make their first court appearance at Kwun Tong Court. The court grants bail and bans them from returning to the APM shopping centre venue pending further proceedings.
