FIS and Anthropic are collaborating to build an AI agent intended to help banks detect and address financial crimes. The companies say the initial effort focuses on a “Financial Crimes AI Agent,” designed for bank-grade use cases. In a joint announcement, they describe working with Anthropic’s Applied AI team and using forward-deployed engineers from FIS, embedded with FIS teams, to develop and support the technology.

According to the companies, the goal is to enable an “agent-first” approach for banks, where AI agents can carry out specific operational tasks rather than relying only on traditional software workflows. They also indicate plans to expand beyond financial-crimes capabilities by building additional AI agents for other bank-grade operations.

The Wall Street Journal and PYMNTS both characterize the partnership as centered on new agent-based tools for banks, with financial-crimes monitoring as the initial application. The coverage aligns on the existence of the partnership, the focus on financial-crimes policing, and the intent to develop further AI agents over time.
