A professor at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point is suing the academy, alleging he was fired after refusing to stop teaching that human activity drives climate change. The lawsuit, described by multiple outlets, names Dr. Adam Kalkstein, a civilian professor of geography and the only climate scientist teaching at West Point.
According to the accounts, Kalkstein says academy officials directed instructors not to include “anthropogenic” (human-caused) climate change in their teaching. He reportedly raised objections during a tense meeting with senior academic leadership, including Brig. Gen. Shane Reeves, who had been dean of West Point’s academic board. The complaint says Kalkstein’s contract was not renewed after the spring semester, following the earlier dispute.
The outlets differ in emphasis but broadly agree on the core allegations: Kalkstein claims the instruction conflicted with scientific consensus and would have required him to omit a central component of the topic.
