A Virginia-based startup, Operation Bluebird, launches Twitter.now, a new social media service designed to revive the “Twitter” brand after Elon Musk’s X rebrand. The company says it is building a platform that resembles classic Twitter features while emphasizing user autonomy and transparency.
Reports describe Twitter.now as being in an early stage, with only hundreds of users initially. It includes core functions such as replies and retweets, and it introduces an automated fact-checking tool that runs on tweets, described as Gemini-based. Operation Bluebird frames its approach around promoting speech while reducing harmful or inaccurate content.
All outlets link the launch to an ongoing legal fight with X Corp. The startup argues that X Corp. abandoned rights to the Twitter name and logo, following Musk’s rebranding to X. A federal judge’s earlier comments are described as potentially favorable, though outlets also note that no final written ruling has been issued. Operation Bluebird stresses that Twitter.now is not affiliated with, and does not claim to be run by, X Corp.
