British berry growers report a bumper harvest following a summer marked by extreme heat, wildfires and water shortages. The industry trade body British Berry Growers (BBG) says that with two-thirds of the harvest now picked, this year’s haul is about 6% higher than last year’s already unusually large crop.
BBG reports particularly strong picking of blackberries, blueberries and raspberries. Both outlets attribute improved volumes partly to increased capacity to manage dry conditions, including investment in climate-resilient irrigation that helps crops cope with heat and limited water.
