Iran has executed more than 500 people so far in 2026, according to a Norway-based human rights NGO, which says the number reflects a recent surge in hangings.
The group, Iran Human Rights, reports at least 511 executions this year, including at least 29 people linked to anti-government protests in January. It also says at least 16 women are among those executed and at least 13 individuals described as “political prisoners” affiliated with banned opposition groups.
