Court extends KC Luxury’s NDLEA detention as cocaine case proceeds

 A federal high court in Lagos has granted the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) an order extending the detention of Afolabi Kazeem Micheal, the socialite popularly known as KC Luxury, for 30 days.   Akintayo Aluko, presiding judge, granted the order on August 20, 2026, following an application by the NDLEA seeking an extension of KC Luxury’s detention to allow the agency conduct further investigations into his alleged involvement in drug trafficking.   The socialite was arrested by NDLEA operatives on August 13 at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, while he was preparing to travel to Paris.   The NDLEA allegedly linked him to the seizure of 184.5kg of cocaine. The agency described the operation as the largest cocaine bust from a courier company in its history.     According to Buba Marwa, the NDLEA chairman, KC Luxury was allegedly carrying €7,750, £2,800, N100,000 and expensive jewellery.   The NDLEA said it nabbed him alongside Lawal Kehinde, an employee of a logistics company allegedly connected to the consignment.   The agency added that the investigation indicated that Nigeria was being used as a transit hub for illicit drugs destined for the United Kingdom, Europe and Asia.     The anti-drug body described the celebrity jeweller as the “Nigerian arrowhead” of the cartel operation.   On Thursday, KC Luxury filed an application before Friday Ogazi, a Lagos federal high court judge, over his continued detention.   In the application before the court, his father, Eric Afolabi, who deposed to the supporting affidavit on his behalf, alleged that his son had remained in NDLEA custody since his arrest without being informed of the offence for which he was arrested or charged before a court.   He also sought several reliefs, including a declaration that his continued detention without a formal charge is unconstitutional and a violation of his fundamental right to personal liberty.     Ogazi had directed the NDLEA to respond to the claims within five days of being served with the court processes.   The judge also ordered the agency to produce KC Luxury in court at the next hearing of the substantive application.   The court directed that the NDLEA be served with the ex parte motion, enrolled order and other accompanying processes within four working days.   The matter was adjourned until September 9 for hearing of the substantive application.     However, in a document seen by TheCable, the federal government had filed an application marked FHC/LAG/MISC/1199/2026 on August 14 seeking an extension of KC Luxury’s detention for 30 days to enable the NDLEA to conduct a detailed investigation into the allegations against him.   The judge had granted the prayers sought by the agency.   The court also granted an interim preservatory order over funds in accounts linked to KC Luxury’s bank verification number (BVN).   The order restrains dealings with the funds pending the conclusion of the investigation and/or prosecution of the socialite.     The court adjourned the matter until September 17, 2026, for a report of the investigation.
