UK tax records released by HMRC show a small group of taxpayers report very large crypto-related capital gains. The figures indicate that 240 people each reported more than £1 million (about $1.36 million) in crypto capital gains.

CoinDesk reports that this is the first time HMRC publishes crypto capital gains figures in a broken-out form. For the 2024–2025 fiscal year, it says 17,600 people reported a total of $1.87 billion in crypto profits, while The Block highlights the £1 million threshold group as part of a broader picture of rising tax scrutiny. The outlets differ mainly in emphasis: one focuses on the size of the largest reported gains, while the other provides the overall reported totals and number of taxpayers.

Together, the reporting shows HMRC’s increased transparency on crypto capital gains and the distribution of reported profits among UK taxpayers for the latest year covered by the data.
