Tampa’s city officials approve a $2.3 billion agreement for a new ballpark for the Tampa Bay Rays. Reports say the decision comes as part of a larger financing package involving both public and private funding.
Yahoo Sports adds that the Tampa City Council vote is 4-3, following a tentative agreement reached about three months earlier. That earlier plan includes roughly $967 million in tax-related money. Other outlets describe the project as moving forward after local government approvals, including actions by county officials.
Hillsborough County Commission approval is also cited. Yahoo Sports reports a 5-2 county vote for the county’s $796 million share, tied to a mixed-use entertainment district. The district includes a proposed stadium for about 31,000 seats located near Raymond James Stadium, where the Tampa Bay Buccaneers play.
