A Bangladeshi national accused of stabbing actor Saif Ali Khan at his Bandra residence approaches a Mumbai court seeking to plead guilty and asking for leniency. According to the reports, Mohammad Shariful Islam (also referred to as Shariful Fakir) is in judicial custody and submits an application expressing his willingness to plead guilty to the offences.
The court is reported to have asked the prosecution for a reply and adjourned the matter to mid-September. Multiple outlets also say charges are already framed against the accused under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for offences including robbery accompanied by the use of a deadly weapon, causing grievous hurt, and house trespass, along with provisions related to illegal entry and staying in India.
The outlets describe the underlying incident consistently: on January 16, 2025, an intruder allegedly entered Khan’s upscale apartment on the 12th floor and repeatedly stabbed him with a knife. Khan undergoes emergency surgery at Lilavati Hospital and is discharged after about five days, while the accused is arrested days later. One outlet adds that the accused claims he was not given the chargesheet and documents, and that DNA and fingerprint evidence link him to the scene, while another emphasizes the guilty-plea application and sentencing leniency request.
