Ottawa is providing $195 million to Canadian quantum computing company Xanadu to support development and manufacturing of quantum hardware. The funding is directed toward building an advanced photonics research, development and manufacturing facility in Toronto.

The announcement is reported as part of Canada’s broader push to grow domestic capability in quantum computing and related technologies. Investing.com also reports a loan component, describing Canada as lending $141 million to Xanadu for the plant. The Globe and Mail adds context that while the investment backs local leadership in quantum, it also draws attention from rivals, who argue more support may be needed to prevent Canadian firms from relocating or prioritizing U.S. expansion.
