India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) completes final development trials of the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Launched Precision Guided Missile (ULPGM)-V3 at a test range near Kurnool, officials said. The trials include testing in both Air-to-Ground and Air-to-Air modes, using an integrated Ground Control System (GCS) for command, control, readiness and launch operations. The GCS automates key steps involved in readiness and firing. DRDO states that the missile is being integrated on UAVs developed by Newspace Research and Technologies of Bengaluru for the current trials. The missile program is led by Research Centre Imarat in Hyderabad as the nodal laboratory, with support from other DRDO facilities including Defence Research and Development Laboratory, Terminal Ballistics Research Laboratory, and High Energy Materials Research Laboratory. DRDO and the Defence Ministry say the development and production involve India’s defence ecosystem, including domestic industries and MSMEs. Bharat Dynamics Limited and Adani Defence Systems & Technologies Limited are named as production agencies. The Defence Ministry describes Air-to-Ground capability for anti-tank operations and Air-to-Air capability for engaging targets such as drones and helicopters.
