A South Korean woman is fined after a court rules her repeated acts of banging on her ceiling and contacting an upstairs neighbor over noise amount to stalking. The Chuncheon District Court fines the 55-year-old woman, identified only as A, 2 million won (about $1,400) for violating the Act on Punishment of Crimes of Stalking.
Court records described nine incidents between March 17 and May 11 last year at an apartment complex in Chuncheon, Gangwon Province. Prosecutors say A struck the ceiling with a backscratcher and used the building intercom system to call and complain to her upstairs neighbor, a woman in her 40s identified as B. Investigations also indicate A had been asking B to keep noise down since January the previous year, and when the issue was not resolved, she escalated to repeated direct contact.
