The controversy began shortly after Buba defects from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the PRP, triggering challenges over whether his candidacy and related running mate and party candidates were legitimate. One outlet adds that a governorship aspirant, Safiyanu Gambo, approached the court to contest Buba’s emergence as PRP candidate. The INEC publication cites Section 29(3) of the 2026 Electoral Act and is described as intended to settle questions about the PRP ticket.
Following INEC’s action, the reports say Buba welcomes the publication, describing it as relief for the party and removing uncertainty about the authenticity of his candidature, that of his deputy, and other PRP candidates for the State House of Assembly. He calls on supporters to unite and says he will pursue issue-based campaigning and a development agenda focused on residents’ welfare.
