Apple is said to have prototyped a shorter Apple Pencil-style accessory for its upcoming foldable iPhone, but multiple reports indicate it is unlikely to ship with the device. AppleInsider and Times of India both cite Bloomberg’s “Power On” newsletter as the basis for the claim.
According to the reports, the stylus is designed to attach magnetically to the side of the foldable iPhone. Apple’s internal testing reportedly finds the setup awkward when the phone opens, and concerns are raised about how a hard stylus tip could mark the phone’s delicate folding display.
While the iPhone is not expected to include an Apple-branded stylus, the reports agree that third-party capacitive styluses should still work because they do not rely on the same kind of dedicated touch technology as Apple Pencil on iPad. The outlets also note that the expected launch is tied to Apple’s September timeline, with a September 9 date mentioned in one account.
