Apple reportedly considered developing a dedicated Apple Pencil accessory for its first book-style foldable iPhone, referred to as the iPhone Ultra. Multiple reports say Apple explored the idea during development, including prototyping and testing a stylus intended to work with the foldable device.
According to Mark Gurman’s reporting as cited by outlets, Apple is unlikely to release a new Apple Pencil for the iPhone Ultra. Gurman also points to Steve Jobs’ longstanding view that “nobody wants a stylus,” suggesting it could influence whether Apple brings such an accessory to market. The reports also describe an earlier consideration of the accessory for the foldable device, with the tested prototype reportedly designed to better match the foldable’s “passport-like” form factor, described as shorter and thicker than iPad Apple Pencils.
While one outlet notes the new iPhone is expected to arrive soon and frames the Pencil discussion as something that may not reach consumers, both accounts agree on the existence of internal consideration and prototype work rather than a confirmed launch.
