Google provides a first look at its upcoming “intelligent eyewear” smart glasses during its annual developers conference and says the initial product line launches this fall. Multiple outlets report Google is focusing on audio-first glasses, with no information display inside the lenses at launch. The glasses are built to run on Android XR and include cameras, speakers, and microphones, while displaying information through audio rather than a lens-based screen.
Google says the glasses integrate Gemini, enabling voice interaction through “Hey Google” and controls such as tapping the frame. Reported Gemini features include describing what the wearer sees, offering sight-based navigation with turn-by-turn directions, handling calls and texts, summarizing messages, listening to music, translating speech and writing in real time, and supporting multi-step tasks such as ordering through services. The glasses also support capturing photos and videos and editing them with Google’s AI tools.
Sources also say Google partners with Samsung and eyewear brands Gentle Monster and Warby Parker, with two previewed design options and additional collections available at launch. Google states the glasses will work with both Android smartphones and iPhones, and it plans display glasses later.
