A crane catches fire and overturns during cargo unloading at Mumbai Port, injuring two crane operators. The incident happens during a lifting operation at the port’s BPS terminal while cargo is being unloaded from a vessel.
Multiple outlets report that the accident involves problems during the lift, including a lifting strap slipping and causing the load to become imbalanced and shift. As the load and boom move, the crane’s boom strikes the vessel, leading to ignition. NDTV reports the crane also overturns, while the fire is brought under control by firefighters.
After the incident, the two injured operators receive hospital treatment. One outlet identifies the operators as Ranjeetsingh and Nishant Singh. Police are reported to launch an inquiry into the cause of the mishap, as part of efforts to determine what led to the fire and overturning.
