A man is accused of stabbing his friend to death during a drunken brawl in Belagavi, Karnataka, after an argument over chicken portions during a shared meal. The victim, identified in reports as Seetharam (also reported as Sathiram Chandradev), dies from stab injuries.

Police say the accused, Arunkumar Balishtar Chavan (also reported as Arun or Arun Kumar), and the victim were from Uttar Pradesh and worked at the same steel company in Belagavi. Reports add that they lived in a shed with other workers and consumed alcohol on a day off before preparing chicken. During the meal, the accused and victim dispute over who ate more chicken pieces, and the situation escalates to violence.

Outlets describe the aftermath slightly differently. One report says the accused is arrested after police crack the case and the murder weapon is seized. Another says the accused takes the injured man to Gokak Government Hospital and allegedly initially claims the victim fell from a building, before police record a confession during questioning. One outlet also references a similar earlier incident in Kerala involving a dispute over chicken curry.
