Hong Kong is ranked first in Asia and fifth globally for start-up potential, according to a white paper released on Monday by CB Insights and the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP).

The report assesses startups with high-growth potential and identifies markets likely to produce future “unicorns.” It characterizes Asia’s technology ecosystem as more distributed than Silicon Valley, with different markets specializing in various stages of a company’s technology life cycle.

One outlet reports that the study highlights Hong Kong’s growing ability to nurture scalable ventures, while another cites a specific scoring result for Hong Kong—370 points—within the same overall ranking framework. Both sources attribute the findings to the joint research and present the city’s position as evidence of strengthening innovation capacity, based on the white paper’s methodology.
