The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) denies that it has started recruiting or training ad-hoc staff for Nigeria’s 2027 general election. In a statement issued on Monday, it says the claim is based on a message circulating on social media and other platforms that directs people to an unofficial recruitment website.
INEC warns that the website is not an official INEC portal and advises the public not to click the link, submit personal information or documents, or make any payments through the platform. The commission urges Nigerians to rely only on its verified communication channels and official website for any election-related recruitment information. It also reiterates that it has previously cautioned citizens about fraudulent websites and fake recruitment advertisements attributed to INEC.
While INEC notes that a large number of ad-hoc workers will be needed for the 2027 elections—approximately 1.4 million across more than 176,000 polling units—both sources state that no recruitment exercise has begun at this time. The differing emphasis is mainly on the risk of scams and the immediate denial of an active recruitment process.
