Finecut, a Seoul-based sales agent, has acquired international sales rights to the 3D animated feature “Guardians of the Video Game,” with the deal timed ahead of upcoming film markets.
The film is based on the Korean Naver Webtoon of the same name. Variety reports the original web property, created by Gasfard, has reached 345 million views, while Deadline notes the project is adapted from the Naver Webtoon and highlights the director. The animation is directed by Uhm Young-sik, known for work including “Running Man: Revengers.”
Both outlets frame the acquisition as positioning the project for international buyers at major markets (Deadline references the inaugural TIFF Market, while Variety mentions the Toronto market). Beyond the rights pickup and source material, the articles’ emphasis differs mainly on the market being targeted and on specific background details such as viewership figures versus directorial credits.
