A Singapore court sentences an Indian man to prison for participating in a Chinatown diamond heist, including a method where he hid a fake gem in his mouth during the crime. The diamond involved is reported as worth about S$200,000 (about US$154,000). The court finds he commissioned and used a counterfeit diamond while taking the genuine stone.
According to reports, the fake gem is custom-made to match the specifications and serial details of the targeted diamond. The defendant switches the counterfeit for the real diamond and conceals the genuine stone using the same mouth-hiding method. The man, Serasiya Milan Ramnikbhai, pleads guilty to theft with common intention, receiving a sentence of 26 months and two weeks. His accomplice, 41-year-old Mangroliya Manojkumar Kurjibha, receives the same jail term and was sentenced earlier in July.
