Former Buhari-era media aide Bashir Ahmad says it is “irresponsible” to claim President Bola Tinubu will be denied access to the United States or be refused a meeting with US President Donald Trump during the upcoming United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). Ahmad reacts to reports circulating ahead of Tinubu’s expected UN trip, scheduled for September 8–28, 2026.
In his comments posted on X, Ahmad argues that Tinubu, as Nigeria’s democratically elected president, should not be treated as having already been condemned by unverified allegations. He says claims should be tested with credible evidence and due process rather than presented as facts to fit a political narrative.
The outlets also reference reporting involving a US lobbying firm, Von Batten-Montague York, which is described as saying Tinubu could travel to America without facing prosecution related to past drug trafficking allegations. Ahmad disputes advance predictions that Tinubu will face embarrassment at the UN or that Trump will refuse to meet him, framing such assertions as baseless and politically motivated.
