Mozilla is officially launching an ad-blocking feature in Firefox for iOS. The tool blocks many third-party ads and ad-related trackers before they load in the browser, which Mozilla says can reduce bandwidth use and limit tracking activity.
Mozilla says it is using Apple’s WebKit Content Blocker technology alongside the EasyList filter list. Because App Store ad blockers typically work only with Safari, Mozilla integrates the capability directly into the Firefox app. Across outlets, the feature is described as using the same underlying Apple framework that Safari ad blockers rely on.
Mozilla also clarifies the scope of what gets blocked. It does not block ads served by the site currently being visited. Ads in search results still appear, and sponsored shortcuts or other sponsored content that Firefox shows when opening a new tab are not treated as ads for blocking purposes. The ad blocker is off by default and can be enabled in Firefox settings under Browsing → Ad Blocker.
