The Supreme Council for Shariah in Nigeria (SCSN) calls on authorities to uphold the rule of law in the continued detention of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai. In a statement issued Monday, SCSN Secretary-General Nafiu Baba Ahmad says the council is concerned about the circumstances of El-Rufai’s detention and reports about difficulties relating to his bail conditions.
The SCSN stresses that constitutional protections apply to everyone regardless of political affiliation, including fair hearing and lawful detention. While it says it does not support criminality by anyone, it argues that the process of pursuing justice must also be just. The council warns that arbitrary or politically motivated actions could erode public trust and weaken confidence in government institutions.
